John Morgan is the dynamic Artistic Director of Revv52, a 52-voice auditioned pop vocal group based in Calgary. Known for his innovative approach to choral music, John has transformed Revv52 into a trailblazing ensemble that blends vocal excellence with cutting-edge technology and immersive performances.
During the 2020 pandemic, John led Revv52 in creating over 35 innovative music videos that generated millions of views on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, bringing national attention to the group. His vision for the choir includes the use of individual handheld microphones, making Revv52 the first choir in the world to utilize this technology.
John has expanded Revv52’s performance style to include immersive staging and choreography, transforming the group into a dynamic ensemble that doesn’t just stand and sing, but engages audiences with visually compelling shows. He also implemented personal vocal coaching for each member, significantly raising the performance standard and increasing the number of soloists from 6 to over 30 while maintaining the group’s cohesive vocal ensemble sound.
Revv52’s collaborations under John’s direction have been equally impressive. The group has worked with BANC (Benevolent Artists National Charity), raising over $5,000,000 in the last five years. John has created 25 unique vocal arrangements for this partnership and facilitated performances with renowned artists such as Derek Sharp (Guess Who), Sass Jordan, Ellis Hall (Tower of Power), Emmylou Harris, Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne), Johnny A (Yardbirds), Mark Clarke (Colosseum), Storybook Theatre, Illfx Hip Hop, Brother Bicker Band, H/W School of Ballet, and more.
In addition to his role with Revv52, John is the Artistic Director of Mount Royal Kantorei, an 82-voice mixed chorus that is part of Mount Royal University’s Conservatory. He is also the Vocal Director of the Young Canadians, a 120-member auditioned vocal and dance group, and the Music Director and Organist at St. Anthony’s Church.
John has provided musical direction for high-profile events including the 100th Anniversary of the Rotary Club, One Rock Music Festival, The Tenors’ holiday shows, and Dave Kelly Live “Home”. His collaborations with industry professionals such as Tamara Beatty (The Voice), Scott Henderson (Earthtones and Souls in Rhythm), and Dave Pierce (Producer – Michael Bublé, Vancouver Olympics) have further cemented his reputation as a leading figure in the music community.
In 2024, John won an Excellence in Teaching Award at Mount Royal University. He was nominated for the Calgary Award for Community Impact in the Arts in 2021 and was the SMP Press Composition Competition Runner Up in the Sacred Music Category for “Angelus” in 2020. Additionally, he was nominated for the Top 40 Under 40 by Avenue Magazine in 2018.
